When was acne first a problem for you? How did having acne make you feel?
C.

Thinking back, my struggle with acne started back in middle school. I was overweight most of my life with poor eating habits, but when you’re that young no one really tells you diet could be the culprit. There was the acceptance that I was just an oily skin type and pimples were part of that.

My acne didn’t actually start to bother me until I was in high school and my mother suggested I try some products to help with it. I was always told that it would get better the older I got, but it was the other way around for me. As soon as I hit my mid-twenties, it worsened.

We’re not talking about just white and black heads, we’re talking full-on cystic acne that stuck around for months on end in addition to whiteheads. The biggest one I had was the size of a dime under my eye. It was horrifying. It was painful. It was so embarrassing. I wasn’t supposed to be dealing with acne as an adult—that was a teenager thing.

What did you try in the past, and did you see results?

My journey to proper skincare was all over the place. In high school, I used Avon because my mother was a rep, so she got it super cheap and stocked up (she still has it all under her sink in the bathroom). My mom bought me Proactiv. It didn’t work, so by the time I hit 20 or 21, I decided to go to a store and see what else there was.

I purchased a few Neutrogena products and tried those out. They worked. My skin was clear most of the month (save for when the lady in red paid a visit), and I didn’t stray from the regimen. Then I hit 25 and I noticed my products weren’t actually working as well anymore.

I went to Ulta to find something new. I spent a lot of money on a few things, went home and gave it a go. Suddenly cystic acne made its re-appearance and I cried trying to figure out why. The stuff the lady sold me was supposed to help, not hurt. I continued hoping that my face would adjust, but it was just getting worse and worse. So I went back to Neutrogena and then within a week I was back to normal.

Not long after, I met my forever love and we decided it was time to change our diet and become vegetarian. That’s when I started doing some research on the products that I was using and panicked because they were full of gross toxins and chemicals and things that no one should be putting on their skin. I started to slowly introduce natural products into my regimen in hopes of weaning off the toxic stuff (since that’s what everyone else said to do), but my cystic acne returned.

I tried several natural lines and there was just nothing that was working for me. During my hunt, I had discovered True Botanicals on Instagram, but just couldn’t bring myself to try it. I was skeptical. It seemed like the claims were too good to be true, but I would continually go back and look at the products while using the other brands in my cabinet. After looking forever, I decided that I would try one item from the Clear line and chose the facial oil. I liked it, but it wasn’t really doing anything to help in conjunction with what I was using, so I put it away in my cabinet and forgot about it. Part of me was apprehensive about spending so much money on the rest of the line—I just couldn’t make the leap. Then I got an email that they were having a Black Friday sale. I jumped and purchased the whole Clear line. I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I was willing to give it a shot. True Botanicals, in a way, was my last hopeful attempt to find something that worked.

How do you describe your skin now after using True Botanicals?
C.

How does my skin feel and look after using True Botanicals? It’s a night and day difference. I rarely break out unless its around that time of the month but, even then, it’s maybe one or two spots that are gone within a couple of days. My skin is clear. I’ve noticed some of my fine lines are a little less deep (except my eyes—gotta figure that one out). My skin is smooth. It’s never been smooth before in my life without exfoliation (except when I was much much younger—I’m turning 30 this year).

Some of my acne scars are starting to fade and I’m really hoping that with more time they’ll fade further. For the first time in my life, I’m confident and comfortable going out without makeup—and I do it all the time! If you would have asked me if I would ever do this last year, I would have told you no way.

Because my skin finally looks as it should (healthy), I’ve felt better about myself as a whole. I’m a photographer and part of my job is helping people feel good about themselves—I found it so hard, sometimes, to promote positive vibes to others when I couldn’t even get my own face under control. Now that I have everything under control and am actively living a healthy lifestyle, I’ve found my way of working and creating has changed, and the way I communicate with others has improved. It’s been absolutely wonderful.

What advice would you give to someone else suffering with acne?
C.

For me, I learned how to care for my skin by trial and error. But patience is key. There is no miracle overnight cream that’s going to fix all of your problems. If you’re on the fence about True Botanicals, jump. Give it a try. It’s worth every penny. Whatever you end up buying, be patient. Your skin isn’t going to transform overnight. It’s going to take an adjustment period before your skin truly starts to react to what you’re using.

I’m not a celebrity. I’m not sponsored to write these words. I am an all-out everyday regular woman who has her own small biz. I have purchased every product from them that I have sitting in my bathroom and I am being 100% honest with you in saying that True Botanicals is the best natural skin care line on the market. Whether you’re into natural skin care or not, it doesn’t matter. This stuff works. It actually works and it’s so, so worth it to give it a chance. The results speak for themselves.
